Kensington Mint Celebrating the Life of Sir Winston Churchill Commemorative Set
Kensington Mint’s Sir Winston Churchill Commemorative Set brings together three coins: the 1874 Penny, 1965 Winston Churchill Crown, and 2015 Winston Churchill Fine Silver £20. Each coin celebrates a memorable moment in the life and legacy of Britain’s wartime leader, Sir Winston Churchill. The 1874 Penny was minted in the year of Churchill’s birth, while the 1965 Crown was minted as a tribute following his passing, which captured the nation’s respect for the statesman who shaped history. The 2015 Silver £20 coin commemorates Churchill’s ongoing legacy throughout the 50 years since his death and was struck in fine silver – the most precious form of silver available. Together, these coins encompass the story of a significant man whose life spanned a century and left a permanent impression on the country and the world.
This limited-edition set (only 1,000 worldwide) celebrates Sir Winston Churchill’s extraordinary life. It includes three historic coins, each reflecting key moments in Churchill’s story—from his Victorian birth through his leadership during WWII and his enduring legacy.
Here’s an opportunity to own a coin minted in the year of Sir Winston Churchill’s birth. It is a penny issued during Queen Victoria’s reign, featuring her iconic Young Head portrait. The reverse design depicts Lady Britannia, holding her trident and shield.
Designed and issued by the Royal Mint to commemorate his life after his passing, one side of the coin features the Mary Gillick portrait, the first and earliest from her reign, where she is notably depicted without a crown or tiara. The reverse side features a portrait of the renowned prime minister himself.
The third and final coin was specially commissioned to mark the 50th anniversary of his passing. As a result, the Royal Mint approved its production in fine silver, the purest form of silver available. Issued for only one year, this coin is a significant part of the set. Together, these three coins honour and celebrate the life of the man who led Britain and the world through their darkest times.
